5th International BUILDAIR-Symposium: “Building and Ductwork Air-tightness”

Oct 21-22, 2010

Kgs. Lyngby

Denmark

Contact:

The growing interest in highly energy-efficient buildings requires an intensive analysis of the factors impacting energy efficiency like construction materials and technologies, measuring and calculation methods, the legal requirements, building and modernization costs, indoor hygiene, as well as other aesthetic and social aspects.

Important challenges that need to be met are to implement the level of air tightness necessary for highly energy-efficient buildings across the different climatic conditions in Europe, to ensure long-term air tightness of the building envelope, and to establish quality assurance as common practice. At the same time we need ventilation concepts for highly energy-efficient and thus airtight buildings that not only guarantee hygienic air change and sufficient air humidity, but also protection against excessive humidity and mould formation and a minimization of pollutant concentration.

The 5th International BUILDAIR Symposium on air tightness of buildings and ventilation systems this year combines contributions from science, academia and research with a lot of applied user knowledge and intensive discussion amongst the participants, for example at an open-space workshop and dedicated networking room.

IAQ 2010

Nov 10-12, 2010

Kuala Lumpur

Malaysia

Contact:

IAQ 2010 is the 16th in the ASHRAE IAQ Conference series that started in 1986. IAQ 2010 will be the first IAQ conference hosted outside of the United States as the Malaysian chapter welcomes the event to the capital of Malaysia - Kuala Lumpur.

The focus of ASHRAE’s IAQ 2010 Conference will be Airborne Infection Control. The conference will explore related questions on the role of HVAC in airborne infectious disease transmission, evaluation of the various design and control strategies and technology, pandemic preparedness, and airborne infection control for various applications such as healthcare facilities, air and surface transportation, schools, offices, etc.

21st Congress of the International Federation of Hospital Engineering (IFHE)

Nov 17-19, 2010

Tokyo

Japan

Contact:

There is an increasing need to facilitate the global exchange of information in the medical field, as recently demonstrated by the global spread of swine flu this year (2009). A system of international cooperation is essential for effective control of hospital infection and the unification of patient information, not only in the medical field but also in the fields of hospital architecture and engineering.
Some people have been arguing for the necessity and creation of international standards, and we can expect growth in activities aimed at strengthening relations with neighboring Asian countries.

The central theme of the 2010 IFHE Congress in Tokyo is "Healthcare Engineering against Cultural Background". Worldwide, there are a lot of hospital related problems which cannot be solved solely by the efforts, or with the know-how of a single country. As well as common technical issues such as standardization, we need to take into account cultural aspects, such as the different customs of individual countries or regions when determining practical application of agreed standards.

ROOMVENT 2011

June 19-22, 2011

Trondheim

Norway

Contact:

This will be the 12th ROOMVENT Conference which will focus on new technology and ventilations strategies for low energy, passive houses and zero emission buildings as well as energy efficient ventilation in the built environment as such. Modelling and visualization will be an important theme including strategies for natural, hybrid and mechanical ventilation. Furthermore, transport and spread of airborne infections will be an important issue.

Energy use in buildings represents a large part of the global energy consumption and contributes significantly to the greenhouse effect. Measures to improve energy economy are thus essential in order to face the climatic challenge and reduce the environmental burden on earth. To meet this problem, energy efficient ventilation and climatization is of the outmost importance. The aim of the Conference is thus to demonstrate in what way we can use our fundamental knowledge and implement new research results to improve the indoor environment at the same time as we improve the energy performance of our buildings. This paramount objective makes the basis for the Conference topics.
